On Saturday, November 3, 2001, during the NCGS Annual Meeting in Raleigh, The North Carolina Genealogical Society announced its awards for the year. Elliott R. Futrell, 1st. Vice President of the Society and NCGS Awards Committee Chairman, presented the awards to the recipients as Beverly Tetterton, President, made the announcements.
THE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PUBLISHING for a single book of abstracts or transcriptions of original North Carolina primary source material:

James Vann Comer of Sanford, NC for his book, Central North Carolina Vital Statistics.

THE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PERIODICAL PUBLISHING for a periodical published by a local North Carolina society:

Guilford County Genealogical Society. They published a journal quarterly called The Guilford Genealogist, which was edited by the Chairman of the Editorial Committee.

THE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO NORTH CAROLINA FAMILY HISTORY for a published genealogy of a North Carolina family:

Agness Wiggins Gunter of Cary, NC on her book, Descendants of Captain John Wiggins of Martin County, North Carolina.

Oren Alston Palmer, Jr. of Advance, NC on his book, The Descentants of Colonel Robert Palmer.

THE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING LIFETIME CONTRIBUTION TO NORTH CAROLINA GENEALOGY for an individual whose outstanding genealogical contributions have greatly enhanced the family history of North Carolina. The genealogical contributions may be regional:

Grace Williamson Turner of Wilson, NC.

THE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO NCGS BY A MEMBER for an individual whose work within the Society has been outstanding:

John H. Oden, III of Bath, NC.
