Helen Leary

Helen F. M. Leary is a Certified Genealogist (Emeritus), a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists, and Fellow of the National Genealogical Society. She has served as president and trustee of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, trustee of the Association of Professional Genealogists, Chair of the Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies, Archivist-Historian, President of the North Carolina Genealogical Society. Helen was a founding member of the Genealogical Speakers Guild. She was awarded the Outstanding Service Award by the Board of Certification of Genealogists 2002, the Grahame Thomas Smallwood, Jr. Award by the Association of Professional Genealogists in 2003 and the Lloyd Dewitt Bockstruck Distinguished Service Award by the Texas Genealogical Society 2014 and her many other awards.
            Helen has authored many scholarly articles for the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, the American Genealogist, and the North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal. She is a contributing author and advisory board member for Professional Genealogy: A Manual for Researchers, Writers, Teachers, and Librarians, and is a contributing author and editor of North Carolina Research, Genealogy and Local History.
